Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G FL ED VR

The autofocus locks onto birds in flight so fast I’ve never missed a shot, even in dim light. Tack sharp at f/2.8 and the VR really helps when I’m shooting handheld.

Shot a full day of high school football under the lights and the f/2.8 aperture let me keep the shutter cranked without breaking a sweat; the VR actually made handheld fourth-quarter shots look tack sharp. The weight is a workout, but when the action's that fast, you forgive it instantly.

Autofocus is insanely fast on this lens - I was tracking birds in flight and every single shot was sharp. Even wide open at f/2.8 it's incredibly crisp. The VR system lets me hand-hold at surprisingly slow shutter speeds, which wasn't possible with my older gear.
